TOP PROformance Specialists
& Sport is keenly aware that in today’s tight economic climate, companies are trying to keep cost down and retain
employees. One area that has been shown to drastically affect a companies outgoing
cost is workers compensation claims for the injured worker. 50%
of workplace injuries occur during the first 12 months of employment. TOP PROformance Specialists & Sport
aims to assist companies in keeping those costs to a minimum.
One simple and very effective
way to do this is by having potential new employees go through a Post-Offer Pre-Employment screen, sometimes called a Post
Offer Screen or Pre-Work Screen. This process occurs after the individual has been offered the job, but has not yet started
to work. The Post-Offer Pre-Employment Screen is used to determine if the future employee is capable of performing the physical
tasks of the job for which he/she is applying. Additionally, a baseline medical history is established, this is important
in the event the employee has a pre-existing medical condition or some functional limitation that may be related to a previous
surgery or injury, but may or may not prevent them from performing the job for which they are applying. The physical portion
of the work screen usually brings to the forefront any injury in the past that may be aggravated or inflamed by the job sought.
If the employee decided to take the position of employment this pre-existing condition may, but would not necessarily be eligible
for a workers compensation claim.
This screen allows potential
employees to perform job simulated tasks in a safe environment. The screen allows the potential employee to perform the tasks
of the job to see if they in fact are in good enough physical shape to perform the job they are seeking. Some industries really
do hire “industrial athletes”, these workers must have strength, flexibility, stamina, and endurance to complete
their shifts, not just any person can perform their particular job due to its physical nature.
Throughout
the screening process potential employees are corrected and instructed in proper ergonomic techniques related to the job.
Reducing the risk of injury once the employee begins work.
